Lieutenant Albert Parish was accompanying commander of the Faughs John Coldwell-Horsfall after a night raid on 19 December 1944 when a mortar bomb exploded close by. Parish was killed, and Coldwell-Horsfall suffered serious leg injuries. When he recovered, he was posted to the staff of Army HQ. Coldwell-Horsfall returned to the Irish Brigade as commander of the 2nd Battalion of the London Irish Rifles when it took up occupation duties in southern Austria after the end of the war.
