38 (Irish) Brigade in Italy – September 1944


During September 1944, the Irish Brigade travelled back to Italy, initially to Taranto and then northwards to an area near San Marino where they prepared themselves to enter battle again with the 8th Army. October would see some change to these plans.

Key Dates:

11th September: Irish Brigade leaves Alexandria en route for Italy

15th September: Brigade arrives in Taranto.

25th September: Brigade leaves Taranto for 375 miles journey north along the Adriatic coast.

27th September: Brigade arrives in Fano.
