George Charnick – Spanish Steps, July 1944

E Company Colour Sergeant Edmund O’Sullivan on the Spanish Steps. This photograph was probably taken during Ted’s second visit to Rome after the Battle of Trasimeno. He had hoped to act as MC for mass in St Peter’s Basilica but was ordered to go to the Franciscan monastery close to the steps to prepare dinner for the battalion. Ted has his Africa Star decoration on his left breast.
