Our first parade of the year, to mark St Patrick’s Sunday and which took place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea<\/strong><\/a>, proved to be a most successful and extremely enjoyable one.<\/a> The weather certainly played its part and there was an excellent turn out of Association Members, who witnessed an outstanding performance by our Pipes and Drums, followed by a moving chapel service and then it was back to the Pensioners’ Bar for some refreshments, both Irish Stew and some sarnies and a few samples of the Black Stuff….<\/p>\n\n\n

We would like to thank all our friends at the Royal Hospital for their superb and hospitable welcome – we certainly hope to return in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At our next General Management Committee meeting at the end of April, we shall expect to confirm the dates and locations for all our parades and events for the rest of this year and also set a provisional calendar into 2027. During a period of significant change for us all at the Regimental Association, we need to establish a set of clear plans for all our activities over the forthcoming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next events at which we shall participate are both in June – the annual Combined Irish Regiments’ parade in Whitehall on Sunday 14 June <\/strong>and the Association’s Annual General Meeting\/Lunch, which will take place on Saturday 27 June<\/strong>, the details for which will be confirmed over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I look forward to seeing you again at one of our parades over the upcoming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have a thriving Regimental Association, which is open to all former members of the London Irish Rifles and who take part in regular events in the UK as well as occasional battlefield tours. Associate Membership is also available for family members of London Irish Riflemen or anyone who supports the Aims and Objectives of the Regimental Association and has its interests at heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pipes and Drums<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Pipes and Drums perform at Association parades and events including those to commemorate St Patrick’s Day, Loos Sunday and Remembrance Sunday and also in support of the Combined Irish Regiments at their Annual Parade at the Cenotaph in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History of the London Irish Rifles<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The London Irish Rifles Museum at the Army Reserve Centre at Connaught House is now closed as we move to pastures new in coordination with the ‘UNTOLD’ Museum in Belfast.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London Regiment – 1993 to 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Following the incorporation of the London Irish Rifles as a company of the London Regiment in 1993, men from D Company company served in The Falkland Islands, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and Cyprus over the subsequent 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Operation Telic, the company contributed to the formation of Cambrai Company (Operation Telic 3) and Messines Company (Operation Telic 4) alongside numerous individual postings and there were also a number of small group mobilisations throughout the conflict in Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soldiers from D Company also deployed to Afghanistan with Somme Company in 2007 (Operation Herrick 7), Amiens Company in 2010 (Operation Herrick 12) and Arras Company in 2011 (Operation Herrick 13) as formed units within Guards’ Division formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No 15 (Loos) Company, Irish Guards<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On 1st May 2022, the London Regiment became 1st Battalion, London Guards and D (London Irish Rifles) Company now forms No 15 (Loos) Company, Irish Guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
