We are pleased to confirm that we have now completed the re-location of the London Irish Rifles War Memorial<\/strong><\/a> to Belfast. The Chairman and General Management Committee have worked tirelessly, in coordination with the authorities at St Anne’s Cathedral as well as the Royal Irish and the National Army Museum, over the past 12 months to ensure that the move was successful and we now look forward to a formal re-dedication of the War Memorial within a short period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in London, we had an excellent first half of the year with well attended and enjoyable parades at the <\/a>Royal Hospital Chelsea for St Patrick’s Day<\/a><\/strong> and our Pipes and Drums leading the Combined Irish Regiments at the Cenotaph in June.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead for the rest of the year, we shall be holding our annual Loos Parade in central London on Sunday 4 October<\/strong> and there will be an LIR marching contingent at the Royal British Legion National Remembrance Parade in November.<\/strong> Full details of both these parades will be provided directly to members well beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have a thriving Regimental Association, which is open to all former members of the London Irish Rifles and who take part in regular events in the UK as well as occasional battlefield tours. Associate Membership is also available for family members of London Irish Riflemen or anyone who supports the Aims and Objectives of the Regimental Association and has its interests at heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London Irish Rifles Museum at Connaught House is now closed and we moved our Collection to the ‘UNTOLD’ Museum in Belfast.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London Regiment – 1993 to 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

Following the incorporation of the London Irish Rifles as a company of the London Regiment in 1993, men from D Company company served in The Falkland Islands, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and Cyprus over the subsequent 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Irish Riflemen on Overseas Operations, 1988 to 1999<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

During Operation Telic, the company contributed to the formation of Cambrai Company (Operation Telic 3) and Messines Company (Operation Telic 4) alongside numerous individual postings and there were also a number of smaller group mobilisations throughout the conflict in Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, 2004 to 2012<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Soldiers from D Company also deployed to Afghanistan with Somme Company in 2007 (Operation Herrick 7), Amiens Company in 2010 (Operation Herrick 12) and Arras Company in 2011 (Operation Herrick 13) as formed units within Guards’ Division formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2022, the London Regiment became the 1st Battalion, London Guards and D Company was re-named as No 15 (Loos) Company, Irish Guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
