Both Albert\u2019s father and his uncle, Cyril Hampson, had served during the First World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, Albert Senior&nbsp; passed away in 1933 and this would have no doubt inspired young Albert when, after working for a short period in the local manufacturing industry, he joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers at a very young age indeed in late 1939 (or early 1940). It seems that Albert\u2019s basic training took place in Northern Ireland before he was posted to the 1st Battalion and then embarked for North Africa with the Irish Brigade in November 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp; April 1943, after over four months of bitter winter fighting with the Faughs in Tunisia, Albert was reported missing during the battles in the mountains north of Medjez-el-Bab. He would later be confirmed as having been killed in action and had most likely lost his life during the period of hard fighting near Djebel Ang.
