{"id":1643,"date":"2018-01-20T16:19:47","date_gmt":"2018-01-20T16:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.londonirishrifles.com\/?page_id=1643"},"modified":"2019-07-29T04:03:51","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T04:03:51","slug":"august-to-october-1942","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.londonirishrifles.com\/index.php\/second-world-war\/month-by-month\/august-to-october-1942\/","title":{"rendered":"August to October 1942"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<p>Men of the London Irish Rifles commenced their long journey towards front line service in August 1942 when the 1st Battalion (1 LIR) sailed from Liverpool as part of the 56th (London) Infantry Division to join the PAI (Persia and Iraq) Force in protecting the oil fields of Iran and Iraq and the supply route from the Persian Gulf to the Soviet Union.
