{"id":16287,"date":"2025-11-23T20:35:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T20:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.londonirishrifles.com\/?page_id=16287"},"modified":"2026-04-01T19:19:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T19:19:00","slug":"38-irish-brigade-in-italy-november-1944","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.londonirishrifles.com\/index.php\/second-world-war\/38-irish-brigade-1942-1947\/monthly-reviews\/month-by-month-review-july-1943-to-may-1945-italy-austria\/38-irish-brigade-in-italy-november-1944\/","title":{"rendered":"38 (Irish) Brigade in Italy \u2013 November 1944"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the early part of November 1944, the Irish Brigade spent time reorganising themselves with each battalion having an opportunity to get back to Castel del Rio for a few days of much needed personal maintenance.&nbsp;For the front line units, the period continued to entail extensive patrolling activity&nbsp;in the most difficult of terrain in cold and very wet weather with the first snowfalls arriving on 10th November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the middle of the month, the whole brigade side stepped to the left to relieve elements of the 1st British Division near San Clemente, although the routines of patrolling and avoiding harassing artillery fire continued as before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this stage, plans started to emerge of a possible future 78th Division wide frontal attack with the Irish Brigade advancing astride the San Pietro road, but there was doubt when this would actually take place so planning for reliefs from the line was difficult. This period of awaiting confirmed orders for the attack continued well into December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex
